Evan Wicklund

Evan is a Senior Research Officer and the Manitoba Office Lead at the Canadian Centre on Disability Studies (o/a Eviance). Evan earned his Master’s Degree in Cultural Studies in 2020 (Texts and Cultures) and a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) Degree in Disability Studies at the University of Winnipeg in 2018.

As a critical disability scholar, Evan has earned awards of merit such as: the Joseph Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship (awarded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada), the Gold Medal for Disability Studies (2018), the Inaugural Disability Studies Award (2017), and the Community Living Award (2013).

Building on his background as a critical scholar, Evan has channeled his passion for addressing issues of in-equity and social exclusion through a wide variety of critical disability focused activities including research, advocacy, education, employment, community living, safety and well-being. Most importantly, Evan believes that community-based and critical academic research is key to creating truly inclusive and welcoming communities for all persons no matter their experiences of ability identity.
